Exercises Facts

Exercise is an extremely important addition to any weight loss program. Exercise not only strengthens individual muscles, the heart, and lungs but for weight loss purposes enhances the fat burning process.

Exercise does more than just burn calories. Exercise allows the food eaten to be assimilated and dispersed throughout the body more effectively due to the body’s loss of energy as well as the increase in the intravascular ability to transport nutrients.

The addition of muscle tissue increases the body’s metabolism, the body’s fat burning mechanism. This increase in muscle tissue does not have to be as a result of weight training as any exercise combined with a proper diet will build and strengthen muscles slightly on their own. Thus allowing for fat tissue to be burned 24 hours per day.

The type of exercise or exercises performed are not as important as actually doing some form of exercise. Work at your own pace. The best types of exercises are compound exercises. Compound exercises are exercises that incorporate many muscle groups at one time, thus burning the most calories.

For example, biceps curls mainly work the biceps, while squats work the quadriceps, hamstrings, calves, abs, and the entire upper body in order to hold the weight on the shoulders.

Abdominal exercises are the best (and only) way to specifically target the abdominal muscles. Some of the more well known abdominal exercises that can be done at no cost are: crunches, sit-ups, leg lifts, leg raises, stick twists, etc. While other abdominal exercises require purchasing, such as the ab roller, the ab rocker, or any abdominal exercise machine such as those found in typical health clubs.

Any abdominal exercise is as good as the next. To say that a fancy abdominal exercise machine that costs hundreds, if not thousands of dollars is better than simply lying on your back and doing crunches simply is not true. The key to abdominal exercises is to use them on a regular basis. Which ones used are purely a personal choice.

It is important to note however that performing abdominal exercises will do absolutely nothing to rid the stomach area of its body fat tissue. The abdominal exercises will simply strengthen and tighten the abdominal muscles (just as biceps curls will strengthen and tighten the biceps muscles). The only way to rid the stomach area of its body fat tissue is to follow a fat burning diet.
